Photographer Aaron Chang Creates Series Exclusive to South Cove

If you’ve ever been to Dana Point, you know the community is home to beautiful sites – from the deep blue water and waves of Doheny State Beach, colorful flowers that line the trails and preserves, to surrounding wildlife, lively murals and more.

Now, South Cove homeowners can celebrate their community with art by internationally acclaimed photographer, Aaron Chang. Chang was commissioned by Zephyr to create a collection of images of Dana Point, and as a housewarming gift from South Cove and Chang, homeowners can choose their favorite photograph from his collection of five iconic images.

As a force in visually defining the sport of surfing, Chang has pursued his passion for surf photography to the far ends of the earth. As a senior photographer for “Surfing Magazine” for 25 years, Chang was at the core of the surfing world, traveling to over fifty countries and discovering new talent and surf spots on a global scale. While he is well-known for his ocean photography, often shot from within the barrel of a wave, he has expanded into fine art photography and has two galleries featuring his work in San Diego and Solana Beach.

Talking about his Dana Point collection, Chang says, “I wanted to feature images that capture the essence of the community: An iconic wave shot at Salt Creek Beach, a sailboat off the harbor, a striking Doheny Beach sunset with deep orange and red hues. These all represent life in Dana Point.”

Chang was the perfect choice to produce the collection because of his connection with Dana Point, and design aesthetic that aligns with the barefoot community.

“As a photographer for ‘Surfing Magazine,’ I became close friends with photo editor, Larry Moore, a longtime Dana Point resident,” he says. “During our visits, we’d surf Salt Creek and Doheny. Those times meant a lot to me”.
