Bioluminescence Night Cruise
July 17, 2017
Friday, June 21 8:30 – 10: 30 PM
Did you know there’s a luminous underwater world just waiting to shine!? The Ocean Institute showcases it aboard the R/V Sea Explorer where guests can join scientists to explore the Dana Point coast at night, home to the nocturnal world of bioluminescent plankton, marine birds and sea lions.
When a meter net is deployed 600 feet deep to capture thousands of curious drifting organisms capable of making their own light, people will witness the food chain under the institute’s specialized deployed squid light – from the tiniest of plankton, to fish and squid, and sometimes even the sea lions and dolphin who feed on them.
